Starting with Seeds
First, you’ll want to find out which zone you are in by entering your zip code. Then look below the map for your last frost free date. You can search for any vegetable, herb, or annual or perennial flower seeds on there and it will have information about when and how you can plant the seeds.
It is fun and rewarding for the family to watch the seeds grow so be sure to place your seed pots somewhere where everyone can peek at them (and to make sure you don’t forget about them).
Get everyone involved
If you are planning to set up a flower garden, the kids may enjoy picking out the colors and varieties of flowers. It’ll make the project seem like more of a family effort. You can even have each child make sure to care for their own particular flower. For a vegetable or herb garden, allow the children to choose which ones they would like to grow and eat.
